Oh the Cyborg 009 anime! I didn't even think of that one!
I've been meaning to check out the full series, I've only seen a few episodes here or there.

Because Sho at least sees Marcie as more like Tina Rex from Gumball. A lot of show and apparently mean but beleives they are 'in some way' just friends messing around. And that she's just lonely. Guy watches a lot of tv.

With Marceline, ALL I knew I wanted to do was 'Cyborg 009'. That was literally all I knew I wanted to do for Marceline's first session. Making her an apparent bully trying to boss Sho, named for Shotaro Ishinomori the creator of Cyborg 009 and many others, and Ryder around came later.
Even Ryder's name was mostly a last minute thought. For those who get the reference, good for you. For those who don't, look up Shotaro Ishinomori!
