As HAS been pointed out, it IS only a playtest and for it, it is broken in many ways...which honestly I DID have planned as being something of a point in explaining those two somehow surviving a drop like that un-poofed. Jasper maybe you can say is that badass but Lapis?

See you tomorrow and happy Halloween, internet!

I had never thought of that before. Jasper was knocked out of the ship before the crash, right? I'm a little fuzzy on that part. Lapis I originally assumed was shielded by the cell (gotta make those walls strong to contain a gem like her), but looking at the screen-grab, it had clearly collapsed, meaning even if the shock of impact didn't poof her, falling debris should have. Maybe she could make a water shield, but she clearly hasn't.

My running theory on that was simply that we kinda already knew they could shapeshift and the like, and after viewing it several more times throughout the show, that the two canonically had "poofed", but had simply reformed quickly. I mean, Amethyst shows it takes only a couple seconds for it to happen, so perhaps in times of extreme life-threatning danger, some can poof down and create a microshield or something. That last part we've yet to see actually happen, but a self-induced bubble around a gem with a timer seems too easily plausible. A gem doesn't need air to survive really, so even if in space, the only major problem is debris destruction.

The theory seemed sound enough considering how little to go by.

Tbh Lapis shouldn't be that powerful. She can manipulate water, but it doesn't seem she can create it. She is only so powerful on Earth because there is water pretty much everywhere. It' like Popeye landed on a planet that's 71% covered by spinach. Liquid water on the surface of a planet is pretty rare outside Earth.

That being said, Lapides are made for terraforming, so they are one of the first to land on new planets. Being resistant to "environmental damage" is pretty much mandatory.

In the actual show, the only times we seen a non-corrupted Gem get poofed is from the destabilizer, Rose's sword, when something pierced their projected bodies, or when they were squeezed really hard

The only exception to this is Amethyst, from that time Jasper helmet slammed her, AFTER she was already badly damaged

I believe the only times we've actually SEEN a Gem poofed by crushing is when it was a corrupted Gem

It seems Gem bodies are naturally extremely resilient to blunt force damage, but piercing and squeezing are weak points, with piercing being a guaranteed poof

Interesting. This would imply that gem bodies are, in some sense, under 'tension'. It's like Prince Rupert's drop: it is virtual impervious to crushing on the bulb, but nick the tail and it shatters rather dramatically.

So... basically they've got Slashing or Piercing DR? Or at least Piercing DR? (Sort of like the opposite of skeletons?)

Could even argue they have immunity to S/P damage, with exception to primitive or magic attacks, come to think of it. Be an interesting interpretation, at least.
